Our Pink Elephants are MySight York’s distinctive collection boxes, kindly hosted by businesses across the city.
As a Community Fundraising Volunteer, you will be a friendly ambassador for the charity, helping us look after and grow this important source of support. This includes placing and collecting boxes throughout the year, sharing the difference donations make, and thanking local businesses for their involvement. 47% of adults aged 75 and over have never used the internet. Digital exclusion like this can make simple everyday tasks almost impossible, from booking doctor appointments to staying in touch with friends and family. As a Digital Access Champion, you will help MySight York members build confidence and renewed independence using technology.
This support takes place in one-to-one sessions or in café style ‘Tea and Tech’ groups. Full training and comprehensive support will be offered throughout your volunteering in this role.
Time commitment: Flexible, 2-4 hours a month

Home Visiting Volunteers do more than visit clients at home; they help bring the wider world to them, build confidence, and support positive change.
As a befriender, you will provide practical and emotional support, such as visiting for a chat, sorting paperwork, helping with non-food shopping, or accompanying someone to a social activity. After dedicated befriending training, we will carefully match you with a client based on your interests, skills, availability, and location. You will be supported every step of the way by our volunteer coordinator.
Time commitment: Flexible, 2 hours a month

Keeping in Touch is our free telephone befriending service, where volunteers regularly call clients to offer friendly conversation and help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.
If you have great listening skills and a warm, open-minded nature this might be the role for you. After dedicated befriending training, we will carefully match you with a client based on your interests, skills, availability, and location. You will be supported every step of the way by our volunteer coordinator.

We would like to build a committed team of gifted volunteer photographers for our ‘Access in Focus’ project. As part of this team, you will help to capture community events and activity groups, produce case study portraiture and sports photography. This is an ‘as and when’ role and will require further admin time to edit and file photographs for use on the website, social media channels and other literature.
If you don’t see the right role listed, we would still love to hear from you. There are many ways to volunteer your time, skills and experience with MySight York, whether you’re looking for a regular commitment or an occasional opportunity.
Call Tanya, our friendly Volunteer Coordinator, for an informal chat about your interests and availability, and together we’ll help find a role that feels right for you.
