From a small get-together to a marathon, there’s a way to fundraise that fits you. No experience needed, just a great idea, and the will to give it a go.
The best fundraisers start with something you love doing. Here are a few ideas; feel free to make them your own.
Commitment: Go big
Run a marathon, climb a mountain, or take on a sponsored cycle. A challenge event raises funds for people with sight loss, while ticking off your own bucket list.
Commitment: Quick and easy
Some supermarkets support local causes. Nominating MySight York takes only minutes, and could unlock substantial funding. (More on this further down the page.)
Commitment: A bit of planning
Think your employer would back a great local cause? Visit our corporate support page to find out how.
Commitment: Quick and easy
Celebrate a birthday or milestone: ask friends and family to donate online.
Commitment: A bit of planning
Organise a bake sale or coffee morning and raise funds while catching up with friends.
Five minutes with real, lasting impact
You don’t always need to organise an event or make a donation. Sometimes, your everyday shopping is enough.
Through easyfundraising, over 8,000 retailers, including eBay, Asda, Tesco, and leading phone, broadband and insurance providers, donate a share of what you spend, at no extra cost to you. Sign up free at easyfundraising.org.uk, choose MySight York, and shop as normal.
Many supermarkets also run their own schemes, where customers or staff can put forward a local cause. Next time you’re doing the weekly shop, see what’s on offer:
Asda
Nominate us for Asda’s Green Token Giving scheme, online at https://www.asdafoundation.org/how-to-apply.
Sainsbury’s
Nominate us to become your local store’s Charity of the Year by speaking to your local store manager.
Waitrose
Look out for a Community Matters leaflet in store, or ask for your branch’s Community Champion, and nominate us for their Green Token scheme.
Inspired to support? A fundraising page is the fastest way to start collecting donations and share your story with people who want to help.
Upcoming events
You’ll find us at some of York’s best-loved community events, including the York Rotary Dragon Boat Race, York Pride, and the York Minster Christmas Tree Festival. Come and say hello, cheer us on, or grab a raffle ticket.
Our fundraising events run on generosity like yours. Donated items help us raise vital funds through raffles and tombolas, and we’re always glad to receive:
