Leave a gift in your Will

Help build a sight loss friendly York for generations to come

Gifts in Wills are essential to our work: around 3 in 10 of our services depend on them. Deciding to leave one takes time and thought, and we’re here to help, alongside our partner Ison Harrison Solicitors, who offer MySight York supporters an accessible, discounted Will-writing service. And if you’ve already remembered us, please let us know, so we can thank you properly, in your lifetime.

Why gifts in Wills matter

For almost 50 years, MySight York has stood with people living with sight loss in our city. Remembering us in your Will helps ensure we’re here for the next 50.

More people in York are living with sight loss than ever before, and today’s children and young people will need support for decades to come.

Our ambition is a York where people with sight loss are fully part of city life, with every street, service, and community open to them. A gift in your Will helps build that future and ensures that you’re part of it.

How to remember us

Remembering MySight York is remarkably easy. Simply instruct your solicitor or Will-writing service to include our name and charity number: MySight York, Registered charity number 1159188.

Leaving even 1% of your estate to MySight York keeps 99% with your loved ones, yet can make a profound difference to future generations of people with vision impairment in York. You can also include us in your Letter of Wishes, which is even simpler to complete, though does not carry the same legal standing as a Will.

If you’d like support with your Will, we work with Ison Harrison Solicitors, offering MySight York members a 10% discount on Will-writing services from accessible, city-centre premises. They’re a trusted, Yorkshire-rooted firm, currently training with us in vision impairment awareness, sighted guiding, and accessible communication.

Remembering a loved one

Remembering a loved one is deeply personal. Many people choose to mark a life by supporting a cause close to their heart. Inviting family and friends to give in memory of someone helps people with sight loss get the advice and support they need, today and in the future. We’re here to help, in whatever way feels right for you.

FAQs

Your questions answered

How will my gift be used?

Your gift keeps MySight York’s services free for people with sight loss: practical advice, emotional support, and ways to stay connected. It also helps build our long-term vision of a York fully accessible to people with sight loss, for generations to come.

How do I ensure my loved ones are taken care of?

Your loved ones always come first. Most people leave a small percentage of their estate, or a fixed sum, after providing for family and friends, whatever feels right for you.

Is there a sight loss friendly solicitor in York?

Yes. We work with Ison Harrison Solicitors, a trusted, Yorkshire-rooted firm in accessible, city-centre premises. They’re training with us in vision impairment awareness, sighted guiding and accessible communication, and MySight York supporters get a 10% discount on their Will-writing and related services.

Do I need to leave a set amount of money?

No. There’s no set amount, and no pressure. Many people leave a small percentage of their estate, or a fixed sum. Every gift, whatever its size, makes a real difference to people with sight loss in York.

Can I change my mind later?

Yes, at any time. Your solicitor can help keep your wishes clear, legal, and up to date, whenever you need.
