Simple settings to make your iPhone or iPad easier to use

Small adjustments to your display can make your device much easier to use, and you may find that changing just one of these settings is enough. This guide covers dark mode, a plain contrasting background, screen brightness, text size, bold text, display zoom and larger app icons. Everything here applies to both iPhone and iPad.

Light/ Dark theme

Simply changing the theme to dark can help if you struggle with the brightness of the white system background.

Go to Settings → Display and Brightness → select Dark or Light mode to switch On

Contrasting Background

This is basically keeping tour phone home and lock screen simple and contrasting. The easiest thing here is a plain black background. This makes it easier to see the time and notifications.

Go to Settings → Wallpaper → Add new wallpaper → Colour → select the desired colour → click Set in the top right corner.

Screen Brightness

Simply adjusting the brightness levels on your screen can also help you see things more clearly.

Go to settings → Display and brightness → brightness → slide the slide bar to the desired settings (left to darken, right to brighten) → exit the settings to confirm

Text Size

If you find the default system text too small you can change the size.

Go to Settings → Display and brightness → Text size → slide the bar across left to decrease size and right to increase size → simply exit settings to confirm

Bold Text

Sometimes the text being bolder can make the words easier to read.

Go to Settings → Display and brightness- Bold text → select the box (the slider will turn green to indicate it is on)

Display Zoom

If you find the biggest font is not big enough, you can use display zoom to make the screen larger. Note – some apps may not be optimized for this feature.

Go to Settings → Display and brightness → Display zoon →  select the box (the slider will turn green to indicate it is on)

Apps

You can select an options to make the app icons on your home and lock screens larger.

Go to Settings → Home screen and app library → Use large app icons – select the box (the slider will turn green to indicate it is on)
